A mother in Utah is claiming that her 19 year old son died after being administered with the flu shot. Lori Webb’s son, Chandler, received the shot after a routine physical. The day right after the physical exam, Chandler suffered vomiting and headaches. A week later, Chandler slipped into coma and spent nearly a month on life support at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah. While Chandler was at the hospital, the doctors did a variety of tests, but could not determine what caused his illness.
Chandler was taken off life support this past Tuesday and passed away. Lori Webb stated that the cause of death was the swelling of the brain. Webb strongly believed that this swelling of the brain was caused by the flu shot. Webb stated: “What attacked his brain happened so quickly within 15 hours… From one CT to the next, there was so much pressure and swelling on the brain that it crushed his brain stem.”
According to a report from Salt Lake Tribune, Webb has declined an autopsy because she believes a pending brain biopsy will reveal Chandler’s cause of death. The doctors at Intermountain Medical Center are prohibited from talking about the case.
Tom Hudachko, a spokesman for the Utah Department of Health, said that the agency knows of the death of Chandler Webb, but cannot verify whether it was caused by the shot. Hudachko stated that there are no records of Utah residents dying over the flu vaccine and reactions are rare.
Hudachko explained that just like other medical procedures, there are side effects and adverse reaction that can range from soreness at injection site to low fever. From time to time, there might be more severe side effects from the vaccine.
Webb described her son as being extremely healthy and having a positive outlook on life. She explained that she does not want people to get discouraged from getting the shot, but to understand the possible side effects of the vaccine.
