The Center for Disease Control released an estimate that stated how 6.6 million flu cases were prevented due to the flu vaccine. The director of the Center for Disease Control encouraged citizens to get vaccinated.
According Tom Frieden, for the flu season of 2013-2013, the flu vaccines prevented 6.6 million cases flu-related cases. Also, it prevented 3.2 million from seeing the doctor and 79,000 hospitalizations.
Last year, the flu season was described as “relatively severe.” Although there were many preventable hospitalizations, there were still 381,000 hospitalizations related to the flu. This number is still very high in comparison to other seasons.
