You can easily find a black widow in wood piles and tree stumps. This spider is characterized by being long-legged and glossy black with wither an orange, red, or yellow hourglass shape on the underside. The spiders are approximately 1/3 inches wide and 1.5 inches long, including their legs.
If a black widow bites you, you might feel stabbing pain in the area but it may be painless as well. Some of the characteristics to look for when you get bitten are one or two red fang marks, redness, tenderness, and a nodule at the bite site. Symptoms include severe muscle cramps, nausea, vomiting, seize, and a rise in blood pressure.
When you feel like you got bitten by a black widow, you need to seek immediate medical assistance. Anti-venom medicine is available. Furthermore, if possible, you could bring the spider with you for identification.
